Annoying Question Thread ^^
« on: December 10, 2014, 03:22:13 am »
A thread for those who like me have questions to Zectas.

I don't understand the logic in the sentence:
Quote
It takes 10 points of Intelligence before the maximum mana capacity increases. Smoke has estimated that the increase would be around 12%. Deducting Igniz's 10% symbiosis would mean that he would still gain 2%.
(Chapter 7)

If 12% is the total mana capacity increase 10% of that would be 1.2% so 10.8% would be left?

Quote
Symbiosis:
        * With every maximum mana increase, the Dark Ember Sprite absorbs 10% of that value.
(Chapter 6)

Ingiz merge took away 10% of the maximum for it to become a symbiote.
So he has 90% of his normal mana.
Because reading the books gave him intelligence increases, he has gained about 12% of his original max mana. (each 10 intelligence increases mana)
As such, he has about a net gain of +2% max mana, because of the extra stats from reading the books.

Now "If 12% is the total mana capacity increase 10% of that would be 1.2% so 10.8% would be left?", I think it means from the original standpoint that with the max mana taking away the 10%, the net gain is 2%, as such he has 102% of his maximum mana, offsetting the mana expended on the sprite.

Sorry didn't quote properly.

If it is in relation to the original amount that would make sense.

Since he had basically no points in intelligence to begin with, I'd say that the 10% mana from the increase is negligible at the start, so not that much to worry about.

Also, since it took 10% to begin with, and 10% of every increase. He will still only have 90% of the max mana he would have had to begin with without the sprite, so it's not that bad to imagine his mana increases.

This has also been brought up before, but the general idea is that Smoke gains 12% of his existing mana points. 1000 * .12 = 120 but Igniz bypasses this and gets 10% more 1000 *.10 = 100 then  the supposed amount of 120 - 100 = 20.

I think the wording that I used is wrong. I'm open to suggestions on how to improve it, in order to better understand the logic   ???

Hmmm, that does sound entirely confusing. From what I understand of what you just wrote it seems as though Igniz takes more than 10% of the mana increase.

From what I understand Ingiz took 10% of his max mana at the time, and any increase to max mana is lowered by 10% as well (so if he gained 100 mana, it would be changed to 90).
Which means that Smoke would always have 90% of his theoretical max mana.

Perhaps say something like "The symbiotic relationship feeds the dark ember sprite 10% of Smokes' current max mana and through
Quote
Symbiosis:
         With every maximum mana increase, the Dark Ember Sprite absorbs 10% of the increase
He smirked due to the books he had used increased his int stat enough so his mana pool was a little higher than before (the drain).

You could write it like this:

"The symbiosis with Igniz has cost me 10% of my max mana, however i noticed that every 10 intelligence points I gain 12% increase on my max, due to this I still came out ahead by 2% from the books read."

(Maybe the tone/wording does not sound like Smoke but you should be able to write something similar.)

It is just confusing as the way the sentence was stated makes it sound as if you were talking about the cost of symbiosis with igniz will now reduce smokes max mana every 10 int by 10% of the max mana, which means smoke will only gain 10.8% max mana per 10 int as igniz is stealing the other 1.2% mana.

I would change it a little bit but that is just me.

from:
It takes 10 points of Intelligence before the maximum mana capacity increases. Smoke has estimated that the increase would be around 12%. Deducting Igniz's 10% symbiosis would mean that he would still gain 2%.

to:
It takes 10 points of Intelligence before the maximum mana capacity increases. Smoke has estimated that the increase would be around 12%. Deducting Igniz's 10% symbiosis would mean that he would still gain 0.8% after compensating for what he lost (through symbiosis).

or:
It takes 10 points of Intelligence before the maximum mana capacity increases. Smoke has estimated that the increase would be around 12%. Deducting Igniz's 10% symbiosis would mean that he would still gain around 11%.

(1000 + 12%) - 10% = 1120 - 112 = 1008 (100.8%)

or depending on the logic:
(1000 - 10%) + 12%-(12%*10%) = 900 + 106 - 10.6 = 995.4 (99.54%)
If I haven't gotten confused.  ;D

Just to point this out it sounds unbalanced if a symbiote is a one time cost of 10% of your mana as lower levels or playets with less mana will use less then someone invested in mana or at a higher level. It makes more sense for it to be 10% of his max mana no matter how high it gets.  (could also increase igniz ability)

I thought I understood when I read the chapter now I'm confused. So Ignz gets 10% of total mana available is this the consensus?

me too i thought the Symbiosis was like this 10% of smoke max mana pool goes to igniz ... like even if he got 1500 mana 150 goes to igniz
in this scenario ("gain +12% mana = 1000 * 12%= 120"  with Symbiosis 1120*10%= 112 computing total mana 1120-112=1008 )
where igniz gain 112 mana
and smoke gain 1008 mana

Well, calculus is easier if you directly do it from Smoke's maximum mana:

Max mana Total: 1000. Usable mana for Smoke: 1000*0.90 = 900. Usable mana for Igniz : 1000*0.1 = 100.
In case of a 12% increase of max mana:
Max mana Total = 1000*1.12 = 1120.
Max mana Total: 1120. Usable mana for Smoke: 1120*0.9 = 1008. usable mana for Igniz = 1120*0.1 = 112.

As a program in C, it would be:

int main () {

  float maxManaTotal = 1000.0;
  float percentBonus = 12.0;
  maxManaTotal = maxManaTotal + (maxManaTotal*(percentBonus / 100));
  float usManaSmoke = MaxManaTotal*0.9;
  float usManaIgniz = MaxManaTotal*0.1;

  printf("Mana max = %f, Smoke's mana = %f, Igniz's mana = %f", &maxManaTotal, &usManaSmoke, &usManaIgniz);
  return 0;
}

With this, you'll have in your screen each value that you need.

Or you can use OpenOffice Calc, or something similar:

In A1 you put Max mana Total's value.
Then in A2, the increase percent's value (without the % sign).
In A3 : "= A1 + (A1*(A2/100))".
You replace A1 per the value in A3, and put A2 to 0 if you have finished, or by another value in case you haven't.
In A4: "=A1*0.9" will give you Smoke's actual max mana
In A5: "=A1*0.1" will give you Igniz's actual max mana.

However, the problem is to know if Intelligence gives a 12% boost to ActualMaxMana - (equip+ temporary buffs, etc.), or to BaseMaxMana. (The same problem is present for every other kind of "increase").
In a more general way, the problem is to know how the increase does work, because depending on that, what i did above, is wrong: It works for the first time there is an increase, but that's all.
Indeed, there is temporary max mana, as there is bonuses from buffs and equips that have to be taken in count. Usually, when calculating a stat, they are the one coming after. Plus, some bonuses stacks, some don't. Some are in percentages, others are a rough value.

Just to show how it can change a lot of things:

In the first case : 10 points in Int gives 12% bonus. if he has 1000, then he goes to 1120. Adding 10 more points gives +12%, so 1120*1.12 = 1254.4.

In the second case, first is +12% => 1120 mana. When having 20 int, the new "+12%" bonus is in relation with the first one, with makes +24%. So we retake base mana, which was 1000, and add 24% of it => 1000*1.24 * = 1240. And 1240 != 1254.4. (!= means different)

At first it might not seems a lot, but when stacking, it makes a huge difference.

Where are the city names from, or where'd you draw your inspiration from? The only thing remotely similar I can think of is ancient central American...

That's correct but the names are from different languages added with a central American twist. i.e. Condor + tl
most places will end with, "loc", "tl", "ac", "tz" but the word before that one will be coming from:
Latin, French, Spanish, Filipino, Indonesian, Polish, German. This is the same with the names of the NPCs and players. Some races stick to a certain language.
